For Father’s Day this year, why not combine two of Dad’s favorite things: beers and burgers. Knoxville is home to several breweries that craft their own beer. The Knoxville Ale Trail makes it easy to visit all of them and find your personal favorites. You can even get a passport and collect stamps from each brewery to keep track of your progress.
But before you get started on the trail, you will need to fuel up with some good, old-fashioned hamburgers. This recipe from Miele for your steam oven will let you cook them in half the time it takes on the grill. Plus the burgers will retain more of their natural juices, making it one of the best you will ever have.

- 1 3/4 pound 80% lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6 hamburger buns
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 red onion, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced
In a bowl, season ground beef with Montreal steak seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper and salt. Then mix the seasoning into the beef until combined.
Form the meat into six burgers, 6 ounces each and approximately ½ inch thick. Using your thumb, create an indentation in the middle of each burger. This helps the patties keep their shape in the steam oven.
Arrange burgers in a single layer in large perforated steam tray, slide into steam oven. Slide the solid drip tray into the bottom runner of the oven; select the Custom or Steam Cooking mode at 212° F. Set the duration for 13 minutes.
Remove burgers from oven, place one slice of cheese on each burger while still hot. Place the burgers on the bun and top with red onion, tomato, lettuce and pickle or your favorite choice of topping and serve immediately.
