Designing Your Holiday Table

You have the menu planned and ready to go for your holiday party. And now it’s time to turn your attention to the centerpiece and the rest of the table. We have some tips to help you create a centerpiece that will fit your holiday meal, no matter what your menu may hold.

If your menu is traditional…

Try a tablescape that uses the traditional colors of red and green. Consider using wicker baskets or wooden boxes to hold a floral arrangement of evergreens and pinecones from your own backyard. You can even use small drawers from antique furniture and stack them high or low. Red and green placemats, napkins, and candles complete your warm, traditional table. To add a unique twist, consider bleaching pinecones as part of your design.

If you’re a foodie with a sophisticated menu…

Consider going monochromatic and neutral. This will let your dishes take center stage against a neutral background. Use gold, white, or silver as the base for your design. Burlap also makes a great neutral background with some nice texture. Candles rolled in glitter can add a special sparkle or you can make your own tree-shaped candles from beeswax. Create groupings of different candlesticks all the same color staggered down the center of the table and your table will be elegant.

If your menu is more casual or whimsical…

You will want to keep the whimsy going on your table. Consider a red and white color combination with a centerpiece of white roses that uses cranberries to hold them in place. You can also decorate your chandelier and let the décor “fall” down to the table. A nice touch is to have homemade ornaments double as place or napkin holders and a gift for your guests to take home. You can also have centerpieces made of ornaments that guests can take for their trees at the end of the evening.
