DIY or Not?

If you’re planning to remodel or redesign your home, you may be trying to decide whether or not you want to hire a designer or attempt to do it yourself. Here are a few things to consider as you make your decision.

Hiring a designer is an additional cost, but the guidance you can get from a professional can be worth the investment. Designers can help you with each step of the kitchen design process. A lot of time and research is needed when planning a remodel, so if you have other commitments and can’t dedicate much time to the remodel, it may be a good idea to find a designer. It’s a time-consuming process. First, you have to measure your space, shop for everything you need, and then have your new appliances, countertops, backsplash, cabinets, and flooring delivered and installed. A designer can help you select the materials for your kitchen and let you know what colors and styles blend well with the rest of your home. You’ll have to be prepared for changes or delays because you never know what could happen throughout the process. The countertops you want may not be available or the custom cabinets you chose may take longer than expected to be delivered. Sometimes, additional costs may come up as well, so make sure you budget appropriately for that.

Redesigning your home can be a lot of fun, but also take a lot of time and money. Think about how much time you can commit and how much help you’d like with the process. Then, make a decision as to whether you want to do it yourself or hire a designer to help you.
