Design Trends of 2019

Living Coral is Pantone's 2019 Color of the Year

It’s a new year and, if a new kitchen is in your future, we have some great ideas to fit your home. Incorporating some of the current trends can add longevity to your kitchen upgrade. Plus if you are planning to sell in the next few years, you’ll want to know what buyers are looking for in a new kitchen. Check out some of our favorite trends of 2019!

Color Trends

The kitchen is the hub of the home and needs to be warm and inviting. Some of the big color trends for the kitchen include Sherwin Williams Cavern Clay and other organic tones including Muddy Blue and Burnt Orange. You could also incorporate Pantone’s Color of the Year: Living Coral. White is always a classic color, and grey continues to be a strong choice.

Cabinets

New cabinets are a great way to de-clutter and simplify the look of the kitchen. Rustic woods like walnut, oak, cherry, and ash are coming back but as laminate cabinets. When you upgrade your cabinets, look for updated features like wide and deep drawers, pull-outs, and roll-out trays. When it comes to knobs and drawer pulls, many people are opting for cut out handles or no handles at all. Designers are also opening up spaces by taking out upper cabinets or opting for open shelving.

Materials Trends

Quartz, terrazzo, and high contrast marble are the top favorites for counters. The classic subway tiles for the backsplash remain a timeless option, but people are also opting to bring color with highly patterned Spanish and Moroccan tiles. Copper and gold finishes are also increasing in popularity, and the appliance companies are following suit. Café Appliance’s new line offers consumers different finishes with copper accents. Because stainless steel is no longer the standard for luxury, designers are opting for dark matte finishes like black stainless steel.

Appliance Trends

When it comes to refrigerators, manufacturers are including glass doors, tall columns, and vacuuming drawers as well as wall ovens with French doors, perfect for small spaces. Induction cooktops and steam ovens are changing the way people cook, and appliances with touch controls and smart connectivity keep everything humming for the modern, busy family.
